TIMES TO NOTE:
Student are encouraged to begin their school day at 8:00 am so they are working when their teachers are available online to provide guidance and grade their work. Each teacher's hours are listed above.
There are teachers on duty beginning at 8:00 am each school day. During school students should be logged in and available on Skype while working and submitting assignments in OW. Students should begin the school day between 8:00 and 8:30 am. Students should check in on Skype with their homeroom teacher when they begin on their lessons for the day. To stay on target, daily work needs to be submitted on the day it is due, and students should be ready to begin each new week on schedule when we return after the weekend.
During the school day you may contact the virtual staff by messaging through Skype or email. Teachers remain logged in on Skype during their set hours each school day (see above). Teachers also regularly check email during this time. This allows the student and/or the parent to contact the specific teacher or the school coordinator during school hours. Teachers will call through Skype rather than the school phone. If you message teachers after hours you should expect to be contacted the next scheduled school day.
Teachers are available during the school day except during their lunch and planning period times. The time away may vary. If you message a teacher during the break, he or she will get back to you as soon as possible. When you message a teacher, please remember to allow ample time for the teacher to reply as he or she may be working with another student. Teachers will respond as soon as they are able or during the next scheduled school day if they run short on time.
Remember the math (8-12) and English/LA (5-12) teachers are available at the beginning of each school day, so please remind your students to plan math and English/LA times accordingly. Students should begin the day with their math assignments so communication and assistance from the math teacher during his hours will be possible. Then students should complete their English lessons next. Please note, if teachers are messaged after their HVA hours, they will respond on the next school day. Students can also check back with teachers during their school hours.
Our English teacher for 5th through 12th graders will work during the morning. The times for each day are listed above. Students should work on the courses she facilitates, Language Arts (5-8), English (9-12), and Communication (HS), in the mornings after math and be available to communicate with the English teacher over Skype during this time.
The school cell number is 620.960.3745. Please call or text to reach the school coordinator, Mrs. Wilt, or to have her pass on a message to any of the other teachers. Mrs. Wilt can also be reached through email and Skype, which are usually answered first.
***If you have an issue you feel needs additional attention please contact the virtual school coordinator, Mrs. Wilt, at 620.960.3745 or by emailing, pwilt@havenschools.com.***
Important Reminders
Excused Absences-
Please email the school coordinator if your child is ill and cannot complete his or her lessons on any given school day, or if your child is going to be late or miss school for any reason. Students are expected to make up any missed work before the beginning of the next new week.
Changing Enrollment-
Please notify the school coordinator, Mrs. Wilt, if you plan to change your child's enrollment status. HVA students cannot be enrolled in any other district's elementary school, middle school, or high school, or any other public school sports team, club, or organization. The exception to this is in-district middle or high school students who have met the deadline for signing up to enroll in a combination of online and offline classes for the school year. The deadline for approval is August 1st of each new school year. After enrolling with HVA and letting Mrs. Wilt know the plans for your student, you will need to check with the middle school or high school principals at Haven for the form and to discuss onsite classes. Be sure to get the from submitted on time so it can be approved.

Daily Work Check:
Parents please complete a daily check to help your child stay on target. To check progress on daily work have your student log in on his or her OW account. Go to the Courses tab. Click on each course to view the units. Go to the current unit in each subject your child is working in by clicking on it. Look at the due date column and the status column to see if today’s work is completed. You can also view the summary for each subject from the Course tab when you first view it. You can see if your child is on target in each subject or if he or she is behind in any of them. If you find that your child has not completed the day's work, please require him or her to finish it that day to get back on target.
Remember grades are lowered for late work, so it is important for each student to follow the due dates and stay caught up each week. Teachers may lower late work by at least one letter grade when it is submitted past the school week that it is due. A student may use the weekend to finish any assignments missed from being sick during the school week. Please note: Grade changes are made at the end of each unit when the teacher sets up the next unit for the student.

Leasing Laptops:
~A school laptop can be provided to any student for the school year for a $100 non-refundable leasing fee. For those who choose to lease, laptops will be sent out in August to students whose payment has been received. A pick up time will be arranged for families who live in the area. Families are responsible for either bringing or shipping the laptop back to the school at the end of the school year. Remember to check the calendar for the return date deadline.
~Please contact the school coordinator about options for making the laptop payment. Those who need laptops mailed will need to have their payments to Mrs. Wilt by August 1.
~Please note: There are no additional charges if the laptop, case, and cords are returned in good, clean condition. However, families could be responsible for paying for any damages that might occur from misuse or accidents. Students should store the laptop in the padded case when not in use to help protect it from accidental damage. Please see the agreement form for more information.
Return Laptop Agreement Form:
~After receiving the laptop please sign and return the computer leasing form by emailing a picture of the signed form to the school coordinator, Mrs. Wilt. The form will be included in the computer case when it is mailed to the student.
